Sabden Soldier's Fate

Father of Nine Children Killed

Mrs. Mount, of 44, Pendle-street East, Sabden, received official notice on Wednesday morning that her husband, Pte (20461) Simon Mount, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regt., had died from a fall. Pte. Mount resided in Wiswell about eight years previous to coming to sabden. Previous to enlisting last August he was employed at Messrs. F. Steiner and Co.'s calico printworks, Sabden. He had been out in France about four months and recently came ome on a short furlough.
The soldier leaves behind him a family of nine children, the eldest being 19, and the youngest two years. The wido received the followng letter from Nurse Jolley:- "I am very sorry to tell you your husband was brought in here, No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station, ----- last night (May 27), suffering from the effects of a fall, and was quite unconscious. Everything possible was done for him, but he never regained consciousness, and passed peacefully away at one o'clock this afternoon. He will be laid to rest in a part of the cemetery here reserved for our brave troops, and a little wooden cross bearing the name and date mark each resting place. The name and place and number of his grave will be sent to you later from headquarters. I enclose a lock of his hair you may like to have.- With much sympathy, yours sincerely, L. E. Jolley, sister in charge."
