Post subject:  Halsteads of Briercliffe and Burnley - DNA testing

Hello, I am very keen to attract new Y-DNA testers who bear the Halste(a)d surname. I work for the Halsted Trust (halsted.org.uk) which, among other things, continues to do a lot of proactive research into the Halstead surname and its origins.
Y-DNA testing involves examining a small piece of DNA that is passed only from father to son, therefore following the male-only line, in theory the surname line. So the idea is that a Halstead man should match other Halstead men (who have already tested).
Our aim is to identify how many different origins of Halsteads there were and to help connect up early ancestors in the vast family tree.

It is already known that many Halsteads come from the Briercliffe and Burnley areas.
The Trust is willing to fund this testing, so please could any male bearing Halstead or Halsted name (or even Holstead etc) please contact me to discuss getting tested for free.
I can answer any questions you may have about the testing process, the results, the project & our objectives, your privacy etc.
You can contact me on dna@halsted.org.uk
