Burnley Express and News, September 1, 1943 SUTCLIFFE – BIRD On Saturday, at St. Leonard’s Parish Church, Padiham, Mr. Jack Sutcliffe, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sutcliffe, 4, Abbey street, Burnley, and Miss Dorothy Bird, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs J.W. Bird, 24 Blackburn road, Padiham, were married by the Rev. L. Morley. Wearing a gown of white taffeta trimmed with lace and satin, with an overdress of net and an embroidered veil of illusion net, which was kept in place by a headdress of orange blossom and seed Miss Bird was given away by her father. She carried a sheaf of red roses. Miss Marjorie O’Neil (niece of the bride), who was bridesmaid, and Mrs. Roy Asquith (sister of the bridegroom), who was dame of honour, wore dresses of cherry coloured silk velvet with lace trimmings with toning head-dresses and shoes, and carried white chrysanthemums. Mr. Jim Sutcliffe (brother of the bridegroom) was best man, and Mr. Ronald Bird (brother of the bride) was groomsman. Mr. Murray played appropriate organ music. A reception was held in Smith’s Café Padiham. Mr. and Mrs. Sutcliffe are spending their honeymoon at Blackpool, and for the journey Mrs. Sutcliffe wore a mulberry coat with grey accessories. Among the presents received was a chromium fitted mirror from the bride’s colleagues. Before joining the Forces the bridegroom was employed by Montague Burton, Ltd. In future the couple will live at 24, Blackburn-road, Padiham. |
