Just a short note to Mel to say Thankyou so much for all your hard work.

I'm researching my family tree and have found lots of info on your site. My family are Wood and Rushworth. I'm off to St James Church tomorrow with my camera!

Hi Debbie, welcome to the forum.

Thanks, though I can't take all the credit. We have had lots of contributions from members over the last 12 months. This site wouldn't be what it is without them.

Roger said in a recent newsletter that though we have a site, it's not yet complete. That made me laugh, I think it will always be a work in progress. When the local cemeteries are complete, I will add more from further afield, something I have already started.

Have a great day in Briercliffe.

I hope it's never complete because when it's finished then so are we. Then what would we do - basket weaving? group therapy?
Anyway, with the greatest of respect to Roger, for a man who doesn't do internet, how would he know?

I phoned him to say thanks for the mention and he said "was it OK....I have no idea what I am talking about, having never been on the internet." I told him it was spot on...except the bit about it not being complete.

Hi Mel,

I'm not used to the forum yet, so apologies in advance if I've posted this in the wrong place.

John Charles Wood is my great great uncle. I have just been into St James at Briercliffe and a new headstone is attached to his grave with his brother, sister and mother 's names on it too.

Is there a way I could find out who has erected the new headstone? I'm assuming it must be a cousin I don't know. The names are Tom Wood, Nanny Wood and Elizabeth Ann Austin.

http://www.studio-25.co.uk/item.do?item=81

Many thanks,

Debbie

Debbie,
Often the mason engraves his name on the stone. If it's there you could always contact him and see whether he's prepared to tell you who commisioned it.

Hi and thanks - the original stonemason was Stephensons - I thought of ringing them to see if they had made the new stone.

You could also ask at the church. Isn't permission needed to erect a gravestone? Saying that, the stone mason is perhaps the best bet.

There is no right or wrong place Debbie. As long as the post is not offensive, I don't really mind where they end up.

Maureen, that’s good thinking, I would never have thought of contacting the stone mason.
