The neighbours on Duke Street Briercliffe all clubbed together and decorated the street in support of The World Cup, think it looks good especially with Queen Street Mill as a backdrop. Hope England do them proud on Wednesday think there will have to be a miracle though.

Never mind, Hannah.......I remember the Coronation too!! Sat at my Great-Auntie's all day (she was the only one we knew with a telly)...and watched the whole thing. Thing which stands out for me the most is that in the pouring rain only Queen Salote of Tonga stood in her open limo to wave to the crowd! Loved that lady! Visiting Tonga is still on my 'bucket list' after all these years!!

 I shall ignore Kris's comments :( , but on the other comment about the Tongan Queen? I remember the jokes that the large lady had brought her lunch with her, ( the little man in the carriage with her) for those too young, like Kris  to know what we are talking about.

Queen Salote was a very big lady...her king, however, was a tiny man...half her size. Think cannibal, think tiny man, think lunch.....OK?

Have you seen the video ( by Kris) on You tube of old Burnley, it covers the 50's and 60's and earlier and i s well worth a look, all the old buildings that I could only remember faintly, now I have a lovely vivid picture of it all. Excellent production, the tranquil backing music.

Most (all?) of the images are here on the site...but without the backing music of course.
