Remember James Sutcliffe (1868-1929), Mayor of Burnley? Well, James married Sarrah Ann Stanworth (1868-1930). The bottom census is Sarah’s family, although some of these names are not coming up in the births records (something weird going on).

Sarah Stanworth’s parents were James Stanworth (1836-1874) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Ward (1834-1871) and they were married at St. Peter’s Burnley, 1855.

James Stanworth (1836-1874) was the son of James Stanworth (1806) and Elizabeth (Betty) Unknown b. 1806. This family and siblings appear in the second post ie. Stephen Stanworth etc.

I am fairly certain that Adam Stanworth, in the first census, is related to the other families, and that is what I am trying to prove.

Gloria, we are related to the Stanworth’s through marriage. Both the Leaver’s and Sutcliffe’s married into this family

Seems we are all related in some way. Joseph and Jannet Stanworth who are at Wallnook in 1851 are my 3x great grandparents. Their oldest daughter, Mary, married Thomas Dent at St. James Briercliffe on 21 November 1843.

Jannet Stanworth was formerly Jannet/Jennet Nichol, born in Dumfries c 1799. Her father was Adam Nichol, a gamekeeper for Robert Townley Parker. I've been trying for years to find out if they originated in Dumfriesshire. The family arrived in Lancashire 1800/1801.

Kris, the James Stanworth in the 1871 census living at Clough Croft Cottage is my 4X gt grandfather. One of his sons Joseph, married Ann Robinson. They had Betsy (Betty) Stanworth who married William Brierley, who drowned in the Morecambe Bay boating disaster.

Joan, we have definitely been down this route before, I remember the gamekeeper.

I found these Kris, but couldn't find the Eliza M & Sarah A who show up on 1871 as 16 & 14 respectively. On the other hand, Asenath doesn't show up. She would be the same age as Sarah A and there's no other trace of her. As you say - maybe a nickname?

James Stanworth was born 3rd April 1808, Holden in Extwistle. Son of Benjamin and Mally (Stansfield) Stanworth.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Smith on 25th Dec 1826 Burnley St Peters.
Betty was born 29th Nov 1806 Extwistle. Daughter of Richard and Susan Smith.
They had 11 children that I know of
