Hi
Just been on Amazon and there is a copy of Roger Frost's book 'A Lancashire Township, the history of Briercliffe with Extwistle' for sale. A used copy, from £55.00!

That is/was the going rate depending on the quality and type of binding Janice.

Don't do it! This book is due out again very soon, contact me for details of how to get hold of a copy (assuming Roger has not now sold them all)

Hi Mel
Was just letting people know. I have had a stroke of luck this last weekend, my sister-in-law has had a clear out of her books and found a copy i lent her about twenty odd years ago! My local book shop in Littleborough had a copy a few months ago, and they wanted £60 for it. I was very tempted at the time, but now am very glad i resisted temptation!

No problem Janice, wasn't having a go, just didn't want anyone to pay over the odds right now.

I would hate for someone to pay a high price for something that will soon be available again. I do think that money spent on books is always money well spent and this is one book I have never regretted buying even though I paid nearly £50 for mine a few years ago. Lucky that your copy made a reappearance! You could treat yourself to something else with the £60 you may have spent otherwise

I think £55 is a high starting price even if the reprint wasn't due soon.

A signed 1982 first edition of Roger Frost's A Lancashire Township. It is a clean copy of the soft back version and has been protected with a see through cover. Price is a bit stepp though - £80.
Contact me if you are interested and I will pass on the source.

Whilst in Burnley t'other day, I had the pleasure of scanning through Roger's book. I took photocopies of some of the pages in order that I could get photographs of ancestral streets like Lane Bottom etc. It's only now I've been able to read the text though, notably page 171 which refers directly to my 4xGreat Grandfather Joseph Kippax at age 82 and living on 2 shillings (a week?) from the Parish. Of course, I don't have any pages directly before this page 171, so I was wondering what report all of this information came from. I presume the info is on either 169 or 168. Could anyone provide me with a reference?

Would this be the Lancashire Township book? If you're not sorted before I get home, I'll look it up for you Stephen

Me again (Rex)

Information like this, in a number of places in Roger's book, come from one or more notebooks kept by a Quaker charity worker, Ann Ecroyd. I have a copy of one of the main ones, for Briercliffe, 1843. I'm happy to do look-ups, and have I think 'advertsied' this on the site before.

Rex,

It seems a wonderful resource. I was mainly wondering if there was any more information provided about "they were short of clothing, as was Joseph Kippax, at 82 and not capable of work, he was in receipt of two shillings from the parish." I know that in 1841 he was at "Sandber, Briercliffe" but by 1851 (yes, he was still going at 90!) he was at Lane Bottom in Haggate itself.

There's a used copy on Ebay "Buy it Now" for £39-99-----well worth it.
And, it is in Burnley---for anyone local.
