Just bought all 3 volumes of The History of Burnley by Walter Bennett from the Central Library in Burnley.
part 1 and 2 is a hardback copy £8.00
part 3 and part 4 are paperback copies £6-00 each
all in all very good value in my opinion.
They will keep me out of mischief for a couple of weeks

They are interesting David. Walter Bennett hails from Staffordshire.

Another of his that I have is 'The History of Marsden and Nelson'. Thats harder to get hold of. The Burnley books have been reprinted by Burnley Historical Society, I believe.

Yes Mel. The paper back copies were re printed by Burnley Historical Society in 1998 and 2003.the hardback copy part 1 and 2 is a 1988 re print by Burnley Borough Council.
In addition to the History of Burnley,Walter Bennett published histories of Burnley Grammar School,Marsden and Nelson,a book on the Lancashire Witches and an edition of the Churchwardens' Accounts of St Peter's Church.

A set of all three books is available on ebay. Bidding starts at £49.99. These are original copies and not the reprints that are now on sale at a much cheaper price in Burnley.
