Following on from the will Mel found for William Brierley.
He lived in the 1891 census at 222 and 224 Briercliffe rd, and on his death in 1894 at 224 Cop Row, these I believe are the same addresses.
I am trying to figure out just which houses these would have been and in the photo page under Briercliffe, then Cop Row is a shop on the corner --- can anyone make out what the signs say, all I can make out is the word "tea". Also, any ideas what numbers they were???
I live in hope that the gentleman in the doorway could be my 3xgt grandfather.

We're just about to have lunch but afterwards, I'll have a look to see if I can find the original and if it's any clearer when zoomed in.

Lunch still finishing off in oven :)

The top sign is 'Liptons Tea'. The one in the window looks like it is back to front but when I mirrored the image, it made no better sense so perhaps not! :?
The second line says ? edition. Looking hard at it....Maybe 'Manchester Evening Chronicle'?

There is a small sign on the door on the side of the building. Very hard to read but could it perhaps sat 'Mackenzie'?

Have a look in the Burnley images too Gloria, I think Cop Row came into the Burnley boundary.

But if that was already a shop? Mind you, I seem to recall Roger saying there were a couple of shops in that row. Worth asking him if he knows?

Just had a look in 'Lancashire Township' and though there are several references to Cop Row, the only reference to the number of shops was for 1843 and it says there were 4.

I have looked on google earth street view and Cop Row is numbered in the late 300's early 400's so the numbering must have changed at some point. The photo on the site is number 408.
