I 'won' this item and have posted it on the main site at
http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%20Archive/Briercliffe%20People/Waterworth%20and%20Wood%20marriage.htm

It would be nice to re-unite it with its rightful owners. Any family mmbers out there?

That was the result I found before I first bid on the picture Gloria.

Kris, notice the 'Newell' middle name. I wonder how popular Newell was?

There are no Newells that I can see in the 1891 and 1901 censuses in the Briercliffe or Burnley area. I had thought it may have been her mother's maiden name.

Kris and I are both researching Sutcliffes Gloria. The other day he came across one that neither of us had seen before, a ?? (Harold I think) Newell Sutcliffe. Just thought it a coincidence that it should pop again so soon.

I have acquired a methodist hymn book inscribed:

"This book was given to me by Jonas Lee; Richard Waterworth, 1836, New House, Briercliffe."

"Martha Waterworth died August 30th, 1830. Richard Waterworth, son of Martha, was born October 21st, 1829. John Waterworth born July 15th, 1852. Susannah Waterworth died January 11th, 1836"

In the 1940's and 50's descendants of this family lived on Bank Street in Lane Bottom. A daughter, Dorothy, moved to the Syke where she recently died. From memory Jonas Lee set up the small chapel at Higher Sim.

I knew Dorothy. She was a lovely lady and did a lot of work for Haggate Baptist Chapel also Hill Lane Chapel I think. She married Jim Atkinson. I went to Haggate School with their daughter Susan Atkinson. It was Jim Atkinsons father who owned the hardware shop in Harle-Syke. It used to be on Burnley road at the corner of Talbot Street. Jim still lives in Harle-Syke. It would be nice to re-unite belongings with their families. I could probably find out more if any-one wants me to do so.
