I am trying to find out the parents of James Kippax. All I know for sure is that he was buried 5th April 1769, and he married Susan Nutter 28th June 1760 St Peters Burnley. They had Elizabeth c1763, James c1761, Ellen c1760, John c1767, Joshua c1769.
James's marriage to Susan Nutter was at St Peters Burnley, their first child James was christened at St Peters Burnley, their second Elizabeth at St Bartholomews Colne, their last three Ellen, John and Joshua, through the official at Hillgate Tabernacle Stockport. There may have been others but those are all I know about.
I am a direct descendant of his through his son Joshua.

The Lancashire Witch Conspiracy by John A Clayton has mentions of a couple of Kippaxes.

Not sure how relevant this is Gloria but I found a Kippax burial at the 'Society of Friends' at Foulridge. All that the entry says is

1678 Isabel KIPPAX of Marsden

That's very interesting. I have my early Kippaxs coming from Marsden. Do you have any baptisms from there-------please say yes.

Yes. (you told me to say it!)
Sorry Gloria, I don't.
Maybe they are available at the library in book form? There was a note saying Book at Colne library though I don't know if this refers to the Foulridge Society of Friends burials records (there are only about 8 on this fiche I have) or for the 'burials at Newhead(Heyhead) that were next on the list.

Rung Preston and the only thing they have are burials 1673-1691. She said they probably weren't licensed to do baptisms. I will try Colne library and see what they can come up with.

Colne library have replied, this is part of it which may be of interest to others.
Nelson Library hold on microfiche the Marsden Society of Friends Registers covering the NE area which includes Foulridge.

Births 1654-1961.

Also Although St. Bartholomew's was really the main Parish covering the Marsden the only other alternatives for that date is St. Mary's at Newchurch which is a little away from that area but you could try. Records are from 1599 and are held at Nelson Library also on microfiche.

I found this on the Genuki website. It might be best placed on the "places of worship" thread. Marsden Heights is the top of Kings Causeway and there could be quite a few Briercliffe baptisms there.

Friends Meeting House,
Marsden Heights,
Brierfield
Lancashire

Cemeteries
The meeting house has/had a graveyard.
Church History
It was founded in 1656. It closed in 1763.

I have spoken to Nelson reference library, and Marsden Heights just did burials. Marsden Society of Friends on Walverden Rd did births, marriages and burials. Although they are a Quaker church I suppose there may be a slight chance of my James Kippax being there, although I cannot find any other evidence of quakers in the family at that time. And, he didn't use them for his marriage, burial or baptisms of his children. So perhaps I am clutching at straws, I shall however go over next week for a root.

There is something mentioned on the fiche about Walverden Rd. I can't look at it right now as we have a meeting and I can't get my reader out until this guy has gone but I'll have a look later Gloria.
I don't remember seeing any other Kippax when I found Isabel though.

Gloria, have you tried the Colne Particular Baptist Records? they are in book form at either Nelson or Colne. Loads of my early Sutcliffe's were there.

I am going to go over next week, so I will have a look through those as well. I know there are a few more people looking for this guy and I would have thought they would have looked there, but maybe not.
