If we can find the date of death, then maybe we will find an obituary in the Burnley express. Hopefully the obituary will mention the place of burial.

I placed two ads in the Burnley Express to kick off the search.

I will contact the lady there and see if she can do me a favour. Might as well try the two dates you found and see if either works.

Ultimately I want to track his will. That said, if Anne his wife lived into her 90s, so sometime in the 40s - 50s, her will would be even better because there may even be great grand children listed.

Yes, the later Will might be more useful to track down relatives, but I will see if I can find both. There are G20 demonstrations in the city this week, and the big one is taking place on Thursday. Maybe I can find the Wills and then trash a shop on my way home….

Hi Susan, I have bad news. The William Hargreaves who died 1923/24 does not appear to be the right man, and I cannot find a suitable candidate for Anne Hargreaves from 1940-1958.

1923 – HARGREAVES William Henry of 24 Berry street, Burnley, died 18 May 1923 at Workhouse Infirmary Burnley. Administration Lancaster 25 June to Mary Elizabeth Hargreaves, widow. Effects £253 11s. 8d.

1924 – HARGREAVES William of 43 Grove-lane, Padiham, Lancashire, died 28 January 1924. Probate Lancaster, 27 March to James Arthur Hargreaves, grocer and William Thomas Hargreaves, collier. Effects £374 11s. 4d.

So sorry for the silence and gratitude from this end - i have been travelling. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look, i really appreciate it. I think i will now try and chase up the New Zealand angle - Clara's brother Albert who stopped over in Australia in 1920 and then went on to New Zealand where he married and had children. Thanks again everyone. S
