Hi Pat, I can see a couple of options for Nancy Edmondson in the 1851 census, one born 1839, the other 1850, both in Briercliffe. Have you any idea at all to the names of her parents? Do you have her marriage cert as this would have her father's name on it?

Found the marriage sept qtr 1881 Thomas Duerden on the same page as Nancy Edmondson volume 8e page 363 Burnley
Seems they got married later in life. If you send for the cert from GRO you will get her father and we can then romp back a bit ===== hopefully.
Or from lancashire bmd, if you go to this you can order from them, but I think GRO is cheaper.

On lancashire bmd deaths 1881 the age at death fits with his birth.
DUERDEN Thomas 47 Colne Preston COL/47/59

Or if you order from GRO it is dec qtr 1881 vol 8e page 179

It would appear allsorts happened to that family in 1881

By the by I have Thorntons and Edmondsons in my tree----you can see which bits on the home page of the site under family trees.

I think your best bet at the moment would be to send for some certificates and see what can be found out from them. Once we have Nancy's father, hopefully we can get a bit further back if she was born after the 1841 census.
