Hi,

I've just stumbled across this Forum whilst searching for some information relating to Worsthorne Wesleyan Methodist Chapel.

Whilst I appreciate Heap and Hartley are very common surnames in this area, the ones I am interested in are:

James Hartley b. 1813, Sagar Hill
Ann Roberts b. 1813, Higham

Henry Hartley b. 1834, Hesketh
Christiana Taylor b. 4 Apr 1837, Ormskirk
Although they were born out of the area, after marrying at Deane Parish Church in 1867, they lived at Hill Top, Higham.

Lawrence Heap c. 1810, Mire Hole, Burnley
Elizabeth Hartley b. 1815, Marsden. Died 23 Mar 1895, St John, Gt Marsden.
Married 28 Dec 1841, St Peter, Burnley
They had children born at Worsthorne (1843-45), Extwistle (1847-49) and Monk Hall (1851 onwards).

I 'd be very pleased to hear from anyone with connections to or additional information on any of the above.

Hi Clive, welcome to the forum.
Sorry but none of those are mine. Loved the "Mire Hole" Burnley, I had some people living at Swamp Top, Burnley!!!!

Welcome to the forum.

I have Heaps, Elisabeth Heap born 1818 at Holden Clough, Extwistle. She was the daughter of Thomas Heap. Her mother was possibly Mary Stanworth

Gloria, yes it made me smile when I first read it... Mire Hole... doesn't sound too great!

Mel, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I cannot see a connection between any of "my" Heaps and "your" Elizabeth Heap born 1818. Thanks for the reply though.

Just to stray from the original topic, which of yours lived at Swamp Top because I'm sure I have some too and it didn't look such a big place on the map.

I have a Joseph Stanworth who died at Swamp Top 9th July 1882.

Hello people,

I was looking for the location of Holden Clough Farm, Higham

My forbear in 1802 married Elizabeth Heap of HC Farm - in Padiham church.

My Gdfather, about 1900, records that she was sister to Thomas H. at that time who was the grandsire of the Heap’s contractors and from which stock also descend the Stanworth’s of Burnley (Smith Stan’th & Co).- He records that the Heap family always named the eldest son Thomas throughout generations. – He also wrote of the Heaps – that they had taken active part in the Civil war and that they had also made money in victualling Royalist troops.

I have an old faded photo labelled H C farm.

I should be obliged if there is anyone who could tell me where the farm was.

The only Holden Clough I know of is in the Briercliffe area. I have looked on multimap and our A-Z of Lancashire but cannot see it. I also have Stanworths, but they are also from the Briercliffe area.
