Ok David, so I can't spell. But neither could many of the enumerators so it's actually an advantage.

I just checked out the theory that Betty Emmott, nee Leaver, could be the daughter of John Leaver & Ann Catlow. However that Betty is already spoken for - we have the certificate for her marriage to Edward Proctor. http://briercliffesociety.co.uk/talkbac ... .php?t=745
There is another John Leaver (born 1806, weaver of Haggate, wife Mary) on the 1841 census. He has a daughter Betty of the right age.
This looks like a distinct possibility

Gloria, as Kris didn't think Maureen should be advanced to genealogist, I thought an in-between stage must be where she is at.

There's a Leaver family on teh 1841 census at Haggate:

HO107; Piece 506; Book: 15; Civil Parish: Whalley; County: Lancashire; Enumeration District: 25; Folio: 17; Page: 26
Haggate
John Leaver, 35 years, Weaver, b. Lancs
Mary Leaver, 35 years, Weaver, b. Lancs
Nanny Leaver, 15 years, Weaver, b. Lancs
John Leaver, 15 years, Weaver, b. Lancs
Betty Leaver, 13 years, Weaver, b. Lancs
Wm. Leaver, 10 years, Weaver, b. Lancs

John jnr married Betty Proctor and I think Betty married Lawrence Emmott/ Emmett. I also think I can track William through subsequent censuses
However, I can't find John snr, Mary or Nanny after 1841. I've looked for deaths and also a marriage for Nanny but drawn a blank. Also been through the 1851 for Haggate a page at a time.
Any ideas anyone?

Maureen, Nanny could be Ann, and there is a marriage for an Ann Leaver sept qtr 1843, Burnley v21 page 109.

I looked in the list of "husbands" from the marriage details of Ann Leaver. With Ann as wife in 1851 came across this.
Robert Barker 32 farmer of 7 acres
Ann Barker 31
Living at Banks
Both born Briercliffe
Hope that makes sense where I got it from.

Well it was a good idea but the Ann Leaver who married Robert Barker 9/7/1843 was the daughter of Thomas Leaver.
Back to the drawing board :(
