This man is driving me nuts! He was the brother of my Gt Grandfather, I am just trying to tidy my tree a little.

Rushton was born in December 1871. There are actually 2 Rushton Sutcliffes born in 1871, the other being born in February. They were cousins.
I have a death for February Rushton Sutcliffe, he died in December 1929 and is buried at Wheatley Lane Inghamite.
I have searched from 1901 to 1971 (quarter by quarter) for a death for December Rushton. Nothing. I have search the Scotland death database too and that showed no result, does anyone know if it is comeplete? I've never needed Scotland before.

My only conclusion is that he must have gone abroad. Does anyone have other ideas?

In 1901, December Rushton can be found here - RG13/3865 folio 63 Pg 24 32 Travis Road, Burnley. (February Rushton is still with his parents and living in Colne Road).

Assuming he has gone abroad, can anyone recommend where I start? US census shows nothing. He had a neice who went to Canada in the 1940's or 1950's, would that be a good starting point?

Mel, you could try the passenger lists in the Ancestors on Board section of Find My Past. The outward bound lists are for passengers leaving England to various destinations. The indexes to 1949 are online now and are free, but you have to pay if you need to look at the image. His name isn't too common and he may show up there if he left the country.

There are 1 or 2 possibilities on findmypast. Not bought credits yet to view the details as I have to pop out for the afternoon.

Hiya, Have you looked on www.cemsearch.co.uk for Rushton's grave, there are 178 people named Sutcliffe in The Ingamite Church Wheatley Lane Graveyard. There is a very small charge if you request the list of names. Hope this helps. (Burnleymasher)

I agree, it's a fantastic resource. The Wheatley Lane records were my first port of call as many of Rushtons (December) family are buried there.

His cousin is there but no such luck for him unfortunately. Ghanks for the suggestion though.

He's either been missed from the death index or he went abroad. Abroad is my next plan of attack I think.

I have checked the St Peter's church cemetery records for you too, there are tons of Sutcliffe's but no Rushton. :(

Thanks Burnleymasher!

He's not in Burnley cemetery either although there is a gap in the data from 1924 to 1958 so I guess there is a chance he could be there.
I believe his daughter may have died young and is buried in Burnley so it's possible. I'll call The cemetery next week. I hate starting things on a weekend, everywhere being shut there's not a lot I can do about this until Monday!!
Oh well, out for a chinese meal tonight so that should take my mind off it.

The meal was great. As we were with my in-laws my mind stayed with the family tree. My mother-in-law is also into this frustrating hobby of ours. I was telling her all my woes. No solution though.

I'll do my email to the cemetery today. Just because they're not open until tomorrow doesn't mean I can't send it!

I thought maybe he got his name jumbled about by a registrar for deaths----Sutcliffe Rushton, as they could both be surnames, just a thought.
