Many years ago, and I don't know when but possibly 1940 - 1950 my grandmother was killed by an out of control wagon on Manchester Road, and I believe two other women were injured at the same time. My grandmothers name was Lily May Taylor. Unfortunately that's all I have. Anyone got any ideas??? |

There used to be lots of accidents at the bottom of Manchester Rd with lorries running out of control. If you can find the date of death there would have been a write up in the Burnley Express. |

I don't know if Burnley library has an index but I would suggest you contact them as they do have the newspapers. If you have living relatives who you could speak to about this, try to narrow the time period by asking questions such as 'before/during/after WWII'. If there was marriage or birth or family event around the 1940's/1950's ask if they can remember if it was before or after. Sometimes you can hit the jackpot and trigger a memory. Then again, if you're like me, you don't have the relatives to quiz unfortunately! Another way to narrow the newspaper search, it might be worth looking for an entry in the death index for the time period. |

What was the age of this entry Gloria? Would it tally with an 1880 birth? Checked 1932 to 1939 inclusive. Have also done a Freebmd search which showed nothing though as it's incomplete..... |

!956-1960 inclusive--not there. So the 1946 one is the only likely candidate. |

Had a look at the death cert of the Lily may from 1946. Unfortunately, not the one. Not to worry , back to the drawing boad. She must have died prior to 1940, so I'll try to get more info from what's left of family! |

On FreeBMD there is this, just thinking on the lines it could have been mistranscribed. The age would be about right. But a bit of a long shot. Deaths Sep 1930 Towler Lily 52 Burnley 8e 163 |

Well done. Mustn't have been on Ancestry, and I can't check as I have let my membership lapse. Maybe I just had my eyes closed You can get in touch with Burnley Library now and see if there was a write up in the paper. |
