Here's a reminiscence of a PSA in Hyde, Cheshire - I guess in the 1940s or 50s: " The PSA, (Pleasant Sunday Afternoon) a reformers answers to men languishing in the pubs and families left at home. Until the day it closed it was only 1d (old penny) to get in and enjoy all the activities with a cup of tea and biscuits thrown in."
http://www.francisfrith.com/hyde,cheshi ... 8_H231029/ This site (Francis Frith) is well worth browsing for books of old pictures, especially as they are being sold off at big reductions at present. Or you can just look at some of the pictures at no cost.
I should have realised that the temperance movement was one of the reasons for the PSA!
