Would it be possible for Kris Baxter to look at his photo of the grave of Emanuel and Mary Hargreaves in St John with St Philip Marsden and see if the years of death he quoted are accurate, because if they are, the mason got it wrong. |

Hi Gill, though Kris took the picture - it'll be me who is responsible for an error in transcription. I'll have a look for the original picture later to check again. At a glance now, I'd say I have the first year wrong but possibly not the second. |

It would be great if you would check. His death certificate says 21.11.1869. I tried to read the grave stone with a magnifying glass but couldn,t make it out. I was amazed this evening to find his gravestone on your site as I have been looking for his burial for ages. He has always proved most elusive. Now I have his baptism, marriage and grave. Although I have been a member of the Briercliffe society for some years, until last week I had never looked up the web site. Very stupid of me because I have found so much info in the last few days. Thankyou so much. |

Hi Gill, it's definitely 1869 for them both. I think I perhaps made a typo rather than mis-read the stone as it quite obviously does say 1869. How sad for the family to lose them both within a few days! Quite lucky for you to hit jackpot at that particular graveyard as we were only randomly snapping photos and not going for the lot! It's quite a big graveyard and was undergoing some work while we were there. The place was in a terrible state with JCB digger tracks (& JCB's) up and down some of the rows. I'm not sure what they were doing but there may be a topic under the Religious Buildings thread that mentions it. I seem to remember reading something about it after we had visited. I have sent you an email with a copy of the image. |

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=694 This is the link where it mentions what the work was. Not sure they needed to make the mess that we saw to carry out this but I believe the knotweed is difficult to shift. |
