Having narrowed down the options for the Death of Ellis Blackburn to:-
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1827
Year of Registration: 1895
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at Death: 68
District: Burnley
County: Lancashire, Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume: 8e
Page: 225

Is there any way I can confirm the records without requesting a Death Certificate, bearing in mind I live in North Wales (not that there's anything wrong with that)?

Have you tried looking for burial records - which may give additional information. Or obituaries in local papers?

Thanks Portia, not sure how to go about either of the actions you suggest.

I think your answer to that would be the distance problem. Church records and library visits.

If the person was wealthy, there may have been an obituary in the paper.
I think, though I can't be sure, that Burnley library have an index for the newspaper entries. It may be worth contacting them to ask of they do.

Otherwise, I think it's a case of paying your £7 and taking pot luck.
