My husbands ancestor Lawrence Halstead, owned and lived in Windle House, in 1841. There was also another family living there, consisting of Henry Halstead, aged 28, weaver, his wife Mary who was 28, and their children William 9, Tabitha 7, Robert 5, John 3 and James 1. I presume they must have been related! If someone picks Henry and his family up on the 1851 census (they weren't at Windle House) could you please let me know their address?

Just had another thought. Although it's likely that Mary was Henry's wife, don't lose sight of the fact that she might not have been. Unless you've caught up with them together on a later census, you can't be sure she wasn't his sister or sister-law or somesuch

Hi Maureen
Thanks for your reply. I am amazed at how many Halsteads there were in Briercliffe. I will keep the information you gave me and see if they fit in somewhere!

Hi Leaver
Thanks for the info on the other Lawrence Halstead, will keep. Have you seen the Halsted Trust website? You can access it on www.halsted.org.uk, very useful for anyone interested in the Halsted/Halstead families.
