I am looking for someone in this region to do some research. Does the society have a list of professioanl genealogist who do research or know if local family history centres may have this information? I have been looking for information for a number of years through the census, 1837 reocrds and LDS parish records on film and have found only a marriage record for the individual. I live in Canada and not able to access the records myself.
thank you, Susan

Hi Susan, welcome to the forum.

We don't have a list of researchers I'm afraid but if you contact Burnley library, they may be able to put you in touch with someone.
Their contact details can be found here
http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries/ ... me=Burnley

Good luck with your research.

I am looking for a Sarah Jane Isherwood and her sister Mary Anne Isherwood born in Marsden or Colne area between 1840 amd 1848. Their parents were Dinah (Smith) Isherwood (Marden 1815) and James Isherwood (Martin in Craven 1815). I have found all the rest of the family as they lived in Burnley from 1848. I can not find any record for either on the freebmd sites and have accessed some LDS parish films for Marsden and Colne for this period and found nothing. I contacted Nelson Library and they are looking through the records they have. Thanks Susan

Thank you for your work, I do have most of this information. I will check out the Haslingden for Mary Anne. As you can see Sarah Jane does not appear in any of the census. Yet she married Thomas Dyson in 1863 and appears in the the 1871 census as Sarah Jane Dyson stating she was born in Marsden, I have her marriage record from Burnley as well where her father is listed as James Isherwood shoe maker. I think she may have been born before the marriage and is registered as Smith although I have had no luck with that angle either. This women just pops out of the air to become my great great grandmother. I have made many searches for her through freebmd and also have access to fiches of the registry of births from 1837 and have spent hours looking for her as both Smith and Isherwood. Thank you again for your efforts.

1861 Census

Mary Ann Isherwood, Daughter, Unm, 14yrs, Winder, b. Waterside

Waterside is between Haslingden and Darwen, possible it comes under Haslingden

Post subject:  Re: Genealogy research

There is a Waterside between Belthorn and Darwen. Would have thought that would have come under Blackburn.

I am away from home where all my data is until Oct 24

This is from memory with a little help from freebmd

Marriage
Date: Dec quater 1863
Sarah Jane Isherwood
Thomas Dyson
Place: St Peters Burnley
Grooms father David Dyson
Brides father James Isherwood, shoemaker

1841 census
Dinah Smith workhouse Burnley
Thomas Dyson with David Dyson head and Elizabeth (Pounder) Dyson wife

Birth St Peters Burnley
Samual Smith
mother spinster Dinah Dyson

1861 Census James is not with Dinah head widow, Mary Anne and Priscilla
but he is in Burnley on his own,
1871 and 1881 he is back with Dinah and Priscilla
no Sarah Jane Isherwood or Smith that are a good fit in Lancashire or Yorkshire in 1851 or 61

I will look futher into the Haslingden

Mary anne disappears as well from the next census, but there is a death in Burnley in 1865
There are no marriages from 1861 to 1881 for a Mary Anne.

My great grandmother is the Dinah E Isherwood born in 1871 in the 1871 census.

Also my sister was in England in the eighties and went to the Wheatley Lane Chapel where all my Dysons are buried and apparently James Isherwood 1815 is also buried there although I have been unable to confirm this through Cemsearch.

All the clues point to James and Dinah being Sarah Janes parents I just can not find a concrete link.
Thanks again for your interest.
