Does anyone know what the purpose of this parade/ceremony might be?

Could be confirmation, they look about the right age, I wore a white dress and veil when I was confirmed at St Peter's many moons ago.

Thanks Stephanie.

Kris thought it might be a Catholic Confirmation

St Peter's was classed as high church.

I think it might be the Whit Walks. Our church used to walk with several other local churches and those who had been recently confirmed used to walk in their confirmation dresses etc. Our church was high Anglican (tho' I didn't realise it was 'high' till many years later when I went elsewhere) and we wore white dresses and veils.
