Hi - I wonder if anybody can help. I recently purchased a postcard which on its front displays a scene with Mill workers. Underneath is the caption : 'Mills Loosing Brunswick Street Nelson' On the back is the following message addressed to Mr W Heaps, 72 Princess St, Hurst, Ashton Under Lyne:
'Dear Willie, We got home allright. I am going to Padiham on Sat. Our Holidays start on Friday night...We shall look over. Ewart is going to France. Father has written to him to go & tape labor. I will tell you when I see you. Love to all Annie
From the tone of the card it is likely that Willie was her brother. Also reference by 'Father' to 'tape labor' suggests Ewart was a tape labourer and the family had connections with the Cotton industry (and perhaps also a reference to the Wakes Week) One further point is that on the photograph of the workers there is an ink cross on one of the houses suggesting to me that Annie actually lived there at that time. Unfortunately there is no stamp or date although vendor assured me that postcard was pre WWI
I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of this family
Thanks

I've tried replying, but the system lost my (quite long) post when I 'submitted' !

Briefly, then.

In Nelson in 1911 census.

Emigrated to Australia c. 1911, died there in 1955. He was a mason, lived in Blackall, Queensland.

These from 'Ancestry' and newspapers on 'Find my Past'.

Let me know if you need more detail.

Rex

It's always worth doing a preview every now and then with a long post Rex or typing into notepad and then cut and paste. So frustrating!
