Hi, Does anyone remember the boat swings at Roughlee and the freezing open air swimming pool there too? It is probably over sixty years since I was there so my memories are quite hazy.

Yes, swings anyway !

I expect you can remember Jack Moore's monkey(s) down Barden too !

Good Friday 'fair' stalls on Barden Lane ? Toffee apples !

Oh dear, I'm afraid I've just had (yet) another birthday.

:) Yes I remember Roughlee in what to my young mind was it's prime.

The swings, the pony rides and the boating lake where we used to hang bravely over the sides with our jam jars and nets (if we didn't have them with us there was a shop on the premises that could always supply them), the object of our efforts was to take home small minnows which we fed on breadcrumbs and of course they didn't survive for long.

Maybe the open air pool was in fact the small boating lake? We were always told my our mothers " do not fall in it is full of all sorts that can kill you"
Not that we intended on falling in, but planned on keeping dry for the walk on the road to the cross roads where they sold Cece's ice cream through the side window of a cafe to be eaten in the garden across the road before further hike up a hill.

It was always hot and never rained back then, or is that a fond memory  ?

Rex- are you the Rex Watson who went to Heasandford school early 1950s? I was browsing around for Jack Moore's monkey, and came across your name. Christina Wakeford (Metcalfe that was)
