It has been named as having the best tour by the Association for Industrial Archaeology. The museum, Harle Syke, beat off competition from more well-known tourist attractions such as Blackpool Tower. Prof Marilyn Palmer, chairman of the AIA, said: "Queen Street Mill is a preservation project of the first importance and a most impressive site when the weaving shed is running." Queen's Street is the world's oldest surviving 19th century steam-powered weaving mill, and attempts to bring history to life with the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Mill. |

The Queen Street Mill, run by Lancashire County Council's Museums Service, is the world's only surviving 19th Century steam-powered weaving mill. Ian Gibson, head of collections for Lancashire County Council Museums Service, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised for this important award. "Queen Street Mill, along with many of the county's museums, plays an important role in keeping the history of Lancashire alive, offering families a great opportunity to learn and discover more about their heritage." Professor Marilyn Palmer, chairwoman of association, said: "Queen Street Mill is a preservation project of the first importance and a most impressive site when the weaving shed is running. "The museum offers friendly staff, clear explanations, simple but good facilities, nothing to distract from the Mill itself." The museum is closed for winter at the moment, but will re-open on March 6 |
