I have been sent the following which I thought would be of interest on here--------

Just in case people don't know and are getting their chapels confused...

The United Reformed Church (please note ReformED not just Reform) is one of the smaller mainstream denominations in the UK.

It came into being in 1972 and is a union of the Presbyterian Church of England, certain churches who voted to join from the English, Scottish and Welsh Congregational Churches and some churches which used to belong to the Churches of Christ.

So many churches which were Congregational chapels will now be listed (on LancsBMD for example) as United Reformed (actually it's incorrect on LancsBMD as they have forgotten 'little ED'!) If you can't find the records for a congregational church that you are after - try the local URC as they may well be one and the same even if the name is different.

There are about 1500 congregations up and down the country and we are very keen on ecumenical relations with other churches.
