Does anyone know what happenned to this family :-

1881 Census

RG11, Folio 4152, 184 and 185, Page 35 (99)

2 Garstang Street, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire.

Henry CATLOW ... Lodger ... M (69) ... Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England ... Weaver

Elizabeth Ann GIBSON ... Boarder ... W (36)... Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England ... Weaver

John CATLOW ... Head (44)... Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England ... Weaver (C)

Grace CATLOW ... Wife ... M ... (30) ... Born in Burnley, Lancashire, England ... Weaver (C)

Grace Procter was my Great Great Grandmother and Martha is my Grandmothers sister.

Hi Bryan, welcome to the site.

This is the closest match I can find in 1891 and, going off the info provided above, I am inclined to think it is the right Grace.

No problem Bryan. Grace was indexed as Pradder!

Doesn't it make you wonder what the enumerator was told or why they were told such differing information.

Mel,
Where did you get the info from.
I have looked on Ancestry.com and it won't find it.

It was ancestry.co.uk. I always use the old search method, do not like the new at all.
I went straight to the 1891 search page and put Grace in for the first name. Selected Lancashire from the 'county' dropdown list. 1851 +/-2 for the birth year and hit search. 346 results and Grace Prader is on the 3rd page of the results (if you view 50 per page)

Grace Prader abt 1851 Burnley, Lancashire, England Boarder Habergham Eaves, Lancashire

Mel,

Found them (under Padder)

It all fits nicely, the 3rd name down is Sophia Proctor, My Great Grandmother (just before she married William Ashton)
this is a link to my page and as you see all looking good.

http://www.bhashton.com/graceprocterfamily.htm

I do know that one of the family went to America, not sure which one but thats next.

Thanks again

Bryan

Illegitimate children were quite taboo in years gone by weren't they.

QUOTE
Sue, your Wade Proctor (1795) in 1861 census is living with the brother and family of my 3xgt grandfather !!!!! he is down as father-in-law.

Gloria

Wade was my 4th Great Grandfather :- http://www.bhashton.com/wadeprocterfamily.htm

You must be one of the "Nutters" then ??

I actually found a Wade Procter on Facebook, I wrote to him and he answered once and that was it, but I may pester him some more

Thanks for the Ellis island stuff.

I am one of the Kippaxs although I do have Nutters that come in through the Brierleys.
1861 Briercliffe, Wade is father-in-law, so obviously Alice's father, it would appear James was born out of wedlock and kept her maiden name.
William Kippax 23
Alice Kippax 25
James Proctor 4
Mary Kippax 8 Mo
Wade Proctor 66
Living at Haggate.

Bryan, I have just looked at your tree.
William Kippax's father John was the brother of James my 3Xgt grandfather. I had thought it was William himself, so I am wrong there.
John and James' parents were Joshua and Sarah/Sally (Jackson) Kippax. You can see my Kippax tree on the home page of this site.
