Hi Gloria
I can't remember Dorothy ever being the secretary at Haggate. The secretary was a Mrs France when I was there. She lived in one of the semi detached houses opposite the bowling green.

Regarding the Waterworth/Wood photo, I have received a reply from the first of the two ladies Pollyanna told me about. Well, her son. I had a lovely letter, they were grateful that I wrote to them but unfortunately do not know who the couple is nor could they point me in the right direction. I will try the other lady now.

Hello everyone - I was interested to read the discussion regarding the wedding photograph of Esther Waterworth and Robert Wood in 1915. I believe Eshter to be my Great Aunt, sister of my Great Grandad John William Waterworth. My maiden name is Waterworth - ChrissyB

Hi ChrissyB, did she have any descendants?
Leaver found a war death for a Robert Wood, we wondered if it could be the same one?

Hi Mel
I haven't come across any as yet - I am in the process of researching the Waterworth family tree although I do have a lot of info regarding the family. As I said before my Grandfather and Esther were siblings - John William was my Great Grandfather and his son Herbert Crossley was my Grandfather. Herbert left the family home and settled in Halifax West Yorkshire - we knew nothing at all about his/our family - he rarely spoke about them, but he did mention Esther, and I believe he lived with her and Robert following the death of his Mother Dorothy Ann nee Crossley Waterworth.
Regards
ChrissyB

Hi Mel
I forgot to mention - I have a Great Uncle called Thomas Newell Waterworth, and a G Great Uncle Thomas Newell Waterworth - with regard to mentioning in the forum of the name Newell previously. I haven't worked out where the Newell comes in as yet.

Thank you everyone - I am researching the Waterworth Family Tree - they lived in Briercliffe for hundreds of years - I have found connections to the Halstead, Pickles and Rawson family so far - and I'm only scratching the surface.
My maiden name is Waterworth and I feel as I 'belong' to Briercliffe already even though I was born in Yorkshire.

I have a picture of a Gunner R Wood who was killed in action in 1916.
Does anyone think that this man http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%20Archive/Briercliffe%20People/Gunner%20R%20Wood.htm
is the same person as the groom on this picture? http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%20Archive/Briercliffe%20People/Waterworth%20and%20Wood%20marriage.htm

If it is and he was killed in action so soon after getting married, maybe Esther Waterworths family might not be aware of him?

There are similarities but it is difficult to confirm this is definitely the same man by the photo alone. It would be good to find the marriage entry so we can see what address this man lived at and what occupation he had. The article says he was married after enlistment so this fits with what we know.

“Gunner R.Wood was a Burnley man, and lived at 35, Cleaver-street. He was 24 years of age. He had been engaged as a conductor and driver since 1913. He was married after enlistment.”

Hi everyone - it's so nice to see the interest the wedding photograph has generated.
On looking at the photograph it is possible that the youngest boy is my Grandad Herbert Crossley Waterworth b 1902, which would make him at the time of the wedding 13, and the young man in uniform to the right of the picture could be Thomas Newell Waterworth b 1893 making him 22 - they were sibling of Esther.
