:) Yes mel, I got it from family search and the contributer is a local man who's wife is a 4th cousin? He is very confident about his history hunting but maybe we know more than him?

I'm not saying we do Hannah, it just doesn't seem to be proven by the St Mary church records.

:D :D :D Wow, you have just joined and found all that, thanks a million, now how do I prove who his parents are? and what on earth was a shalloon maker

What is Lancashire on line parish clerks?

Im also trying to find a marriage between William and Hannah Whitaker about 1810, their d.o.b would be about 1782 + or -, it should be in Haggate or Briercliffe, is that in you records? I've been stuck on that for two years.

Hi Hannah,

www.lan-opc.org.uk is the web address for the Online Parish Clerks.

Also asked that question myself, and have just be looking it up, shallon was a type of woollen cloth which was used to line coats or was made into blankets. The word comes from the french chalon. I think thats right.

:?: Patricia is there a website for Yorkshire which could lead me back further? Can't trace anyone back and as the border with yorkshire could have moved a bit, I may have been looking in the wrong place. George T. could have come that way.

:o Thanks again Patricia, I have followed the website you gave me round most of lancashire and now in the wee small hours, I landed on St Barts at Colne ( which I had checked in the library)!! but clearly missed what I wanted or couldn't read it.Have found a William Whittaker, born 1791, which would make him 19 when his first child was born??? Possible I know, his address is Southfield!!! Can someone tell me if that is in Briercliffe as the map is starting to blur, if so, he matches the man I'm looking for.

I don't think it is officially classed as Briercliffe but I certainly wouldn't discount it.

Southfield is partway between Catlow Bottoms and Colne. Shooters Arms is in Southfield, as I think is Marsden Park Golf Course. Southfield is the area at the top of Barkerhouse Rd.

If you go on multimap and type in Barkerhouse Rd Nelson, go to the top of Barkerhouse Rd where it joins Southfield Lane and over to your right (as you stand looking at the top)is Southfield Farm and what is now a lot of converted farm buildings. I used to go there before the conversions and it was a tiny little hamlet of three farms (I think) and odd old cottages.

Jane Thistlewhite
Dau of William Thistlewhite & Alice
Abode: Chapel
Occupation: Weaver
Register: Baptisms 1811 - 1812, Page 1, Entry 1

LDs is the abbreviation for Latter Day Saints.

The film number should relate to a film held at the Mormon library. In theory, you should be able to visit your local familysearch library, armed with that number, and view the film containing that particular record.
