Apparently a five ton lorry with a trailer carrying a full load of flour hit a vehicle whilst out of control, bounced off the car ploughing on to the pavement killing my grandmother and another lady instantly and injuring several other pedestrians. A good number of bags of flour burst and the result was a snow like appearance which is evidenced by the phot that appeared in the Express.

You think that's bad. After seeing the crash photo in the Express the nice lady from the Library(Alison) asked if I knew anything of my grandfather, which I didn't. Within ten minutes she had found his obituary. He was a leading light in the Baptist world, a cotton manufacturer, a member of three masonic lodges, a liberal councillor, captain of burnley golf club and he died in a sanitorium in North Wales!!! Talk about a double whammy! I came out of there a little shell shocked.

Blimey! These things take a lot of digesting!

I wonder what effect the wagon incident had on the relatives living at the time. Traffic would be very quiet in those days.

Just a thought - would Burnley Golf Club have pictures of former captains?
http://www.burnleygolfclub.com/index.ph ... e&Itemid=1

They have a section on 'Club Information' that gives history and current captains though the history section seems to be more a description of the area and course with only a paragraph that I would consider as actual history.

Well done Kris.
The golf club would certainly have photos of former captains, worth a phone call/e-mail.

Thanks all. A little bit ahead of you I wrote to Burnley golf club where a brilliant gentleman Mr Wills did some research and confirmed that not only was my father captain in 1920, but his photo was in the club centenary publication that came out last year. A Copy is in the post as we speak. How good is that!!!

That's fantastic, I know it was something you hoped to find.

Just another small thing. If my grandmother was killed in Burnley, any idea why her administration was in Llandudno?!!!

It'll be the will I'm guessing Gloria?

Was her home address in Llandudno? Was she just visiting Burnley when she was killed? They must have moved that way if your grandfather died in North Wales.
