In researching my English family history I have found two instances where the census entries show Born: America - british subject for the earliest born children. In both instances it appears that the newly-married couple temporarily emigrated to the U.S. and then returned a few years later to the town or village from which they came. This happened for gg grandfather Jonah Andrew in the 1850s, who lived in Saddleworth, Yorkshire for most of his life and my other g grandfather's brother WilliamTownley in the 1880s who was born in Accrington and evidently returned to Accrington. I would have never known that they had lived in the U.S., except for the census entries showing they had children who were born there.
I was wondering if others have encountered similar situations of temporary emigration.
