October 13, 1917.

Burnley Lane Military Medallist.

Corpl. Arthur Sutcliffe, 11156, of the Scottish Rifles (Cameronians), whose mother resides at 11, Bar-street, Burnley Lane, and, who has been awarded the Military Medal, has seen some very severe fighting in France, as revealed by a diary which he has compiled in the trenches. He appears to have been wounded on three occasions. The writer of the diary modestly says nothing about his own achievements, except that on one occasion he was highly praised for his work with the gun in action.
His father, two brothers, and a brother-in-law are all on active service.
