Murder and Suicide at Burnley
On Saturday, the body of a labourer, aged 43, named Peter Shea, wasfound in the canal at Burnley a short distance from the spot where the body of Mary Conden, a single woman, aged 33, was found last Wednesday. The two were seen together in an eating-house, and were not heard of alive afterwards. The evidence at the inquest on Conden showed that she had been murdered and thrown into the water, and suspicion having been thrown on O'Shea, a search was made, with the results as stated. There are two large wounds on O'Shea, but it has not been ascertained whether they were caused before or after death. Conden and O'Shea had kept company for several months, and it is supposed that for some reason not yet known O'Shea murdered the woman and afterwards committed suicide.
