My great grandfather, John William Long, came from Rawdon to Nelson in 1893 with his wife, Bessie and children, William Laurence, Janet and Frederick Parkinson. They lived at 30 Swaine Street before moving to 386 Leeds Road, Nelson.

JWL was a 'warp dresser', later becoming a 'mill manager' in Nelson. Could anyone advise how I could find out which mill(s) in Nelson he worked at?

I have a photograph of him at a meeting in Nelson of warp dressers? or mill managers? I will attempt to include it. JWL is on the left in the back row. I would like to know who the group is. The photograph was taken by Barcroft and Crabtree, Burnley and Nelson.

Hi Barley, I believe this photo probably dates to circa 1893/4 because Barcroft & Crabtree photographers opened a branch at Nelson c. 1893, and soon after opened another branch at Bacup (this photo does not mention the Bacup studio). viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2214&start=0

Have you contacted the Nelson library to see if they recognise any of the people in the photo? If not, you can contact the reference library here: Nelson.Reference@lcl.lancscc.gov.uk
